Little Failure

I personally did not care for the style of writing Gary Shteyngart chose. He jumped around throughout the entire book. It was very hard to keep up with him at some points. I had to re-read some pages a few times just to make sure I understood what was going on. I felt as if there was no structure to the book. Gary would talk about the Russians, then his childhood, then America, and then his adulthood. I think Gary should have gotten all the historical information out of the way in a separate part of the book, like the first few chapters. Then he should of began his whole life story. It would of been an easier read for me if he did that.

  1. I know that style of writing can be annoying, but usually it's for a reason. Since throughout the book he was going through different stages of his life I feel like it was only proper that he "jumped around" a lot. Maybe he could have done it in a more concise and sensical way. But it also makes sense that as he gets older his style of thinking would change and with that, his style of writing as well.
